More couples are renewing wedding vows as an anniversary celebration
February 24, 2016
Though older couples are getting divorces at increasing rates, there has also been a rise of couples over 50 renewing their wedding vows, as part of an anniversary celebration.
A study by Saga found that one in 14 of those aged 50 and older have already renewed or are planning on renewing their wedding vows, and spend around £1000 on the event. The research also found people renewed their vows after 30 years of marriage.
Paul Green, director of communications at Saga, commented: “Renewing your wedding vows can be a great way to celebrate your marriage and give you a chance to relive your special day with children and grandchildren: and a great excuse for a party and a romantic break a deux.”
Celebrating a wedding anniversary is not the only reason couple are renewing their vows, a significant change in their life has prompted a small celebration to show their love for each other and surrounding family.
Though becoming popular with older couples, renewing vows is also popular with younger couples who want to remember their special day in a different way.
