Over The Top Weddings: Who Spent What and When
November 21, 2015
We’re big fans of a budget wedding here at Jollybrolly – in fact you can get some of our wedding umbrellas from just £7.99. However it does make for interesting reading to see the quite frankly insane and astronomical amounts some couples choose to spend. So, for this week only, we’re indulging our gossipy side and have details of the most expensive weddings of all time!
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
This couple is known for indulging in the finer things – and moments – in life! She’s known for contouring and reality TV, he’s known for music and strong – if nonsensical at times - opinions. The Kardashian-West wedding took place in Florence, featured performances by Lana Del Ray and John Legend and cost a cool $12 million dollars.
Prince William and Kate Middleton
Everyone remembers this day – and no one minded funding it seeing as we all got a day off! The wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton cost $34 million and took place in London, featuring an Alexander McQueen gown and performance by Ellie Goulding.
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
We don’t have the exact figure for this one – but she wore a pink dress and he looked as dapper as ever! The couple booked all their guests into an Italian hotel for their big day, and enjoyed a lavish – and likely pricey – affair.
Michael Jordan and Yvette Prieto
The former athlete’s wedding scored a perfect 10 - $10 million that is. It was the sports star’s second wedding and it took place in 2013. Guests at the bash saw Usher, Robin Thicke and K’Jon all perform for the newlyweds.
Other weddings to top the most expensive list include Lady Diana Spencer’s wedding to Prince Charles, and another Kardashian wedding! When Kim Kardashian married Chris Humphries back in 2011 it reportedly cost $10. And last but not least, Chelsea Clinton’s wedding to Marc Mezvinsky cost a colossal $4 million in 2010.
It’s an integral day in your life that you’ll never forget – and if you have the budget, why not! However it’s you and your other half that counts so as hard as it might be to resist spending with pressure from friends and relatives, if you don’t want to splash out on expensive gowns and guest lists, keep it small and keep that budget down!
