Some call them the power couple of a generation, others think they are famous for being famous, some have no opinion at all – but everyone knows who they are. And a few weeks ago, model and TV personality Kim Kardashian wed her rapper and producer beau Kanye West in what promised to be THE celebrity wedding of the century. Here we look at the ceremony, how they celebrated and speculate as to how much their nuptials really cost.

Pre-Wedding Parties
Kim and Kanye, or "Kimye" as the tabloids have christened them, celebrated their upcoming wedding with a week’s worth of parties held in France. The couple flew their guests to the romance capital of the world, Paris, and enjoyed a tour of Versailles and a dinner at the exclusive restaurant of Hotel Costes, one of the best in the city. With accommodation at the very expensive Hotel George V, the couple are assumed to have spent upwards of $250,000 on ensuring they and their guests were comfortable after all the celebrations, which included a performance by singing siren Lana Del Rey.

The Ceremony and Venue
The couple then chose to take themselves and their guests to Florence for the wedding and, keeping with the romantic theme, opted for the grandeur of a 16th century fortress, Fort Belvedere, as the setting for the ceremony. The fortress, which has stunning views of the neighbouring towns and countryside is rumoured to have cost around $250,000 to hire out. The couple added to the display with a gorgeous wall of fresh white flowers, in front of which they exchanged their vows. Displays such as the one Kim and Kanye used are thought to cost over $70,000.

The Dress
With Kim Kardashian being one of the most recognisable beauties in the world, her dress was the topic on everyone’s lips and she did not disappoint, choosing an incredible custom Givenchy Couture gown by Riccardo Tisci. Her look was stylish and sexy whist still remaining traditional and elegant. The dress made Kim look like a million dollars…well, half a million anyway – as that’s what it’s rumoured to have cost. The bridesmaids were also adorned with expensive dresses to complete the look of the most lavish and yet unexpectedly traditional weddings to have graced magazine covers this year.

They may have spent a huge amount tying the knot, but Kim and Kanye’s wedding can be replicated on a smaller scale for a lot cheaper. Using techniques and accents to add some French provincial style to your big day can help recreate the same look and feel at a fraction of the price. Our range of wedding umbrellas are the perfect way to add a touch of Je Ne Sais Quoi to your big day, whether you opt for the traditional – or go for the eclectic.

But back to Kimye and there we have it, a minimum spend of over $1 million…and we bet we’re just scratching the surface.
