Why Golf is the New Rock !
January 16, 2019
It’s fair to say that golf isn’t normally considered the coolest sport in the world, but when you think about it a life on the fairways is actually pretty rock ‘n roll. Not convinced? Let me tell you why…
Golfers get a lot of stick for their fashion, but a lot of what they wear and equipment they use is actually pretty flair. A traditional golfing outfit kind of puts a smarter twist on the rock stars look. Everywhere you look on the course outlandish colours and large golf umbrellas are on display. Take a look at the current PGA Tour crop and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Ian Poullter dresses a lot like Rod Stewart, and Rickie Fowler looks like Justin Bieber in his bright outfits. Their large golf umbrellas are usually branded with logos and larger than life making the golfers look like rock stars.
The Bad Boy Image
The lifestyle of modern day professional golfers have completely changed the sports image. It used to be seen as a civilised hobby for the seriously wealthy, but the recent antics of a certain Mr Tiger Woods have shown us what it’s really about, scoring chicks!
Tiger had so many women waiting for him in cities around the world that even the most popular rock star would struggle to compete!
Going on Tour
Just like musicians golfers live their life on the road. The PGA Tour runs from January to November every single year which is considerably longer than the majority of rock world tours.
And a lot of these golfers do live a pretty manic life on the tour and just like rock stars they earn ridiculous amounts of cash and have quite a lot of down time in which to spend it.
All Rock Stars Seem To Play!
Playing golf is now an essential part of being a rock god. The list of musicians who enjoy spending some time on the fairways is pretty much endless. Justin Timberlake is one of the best golfers on the pro-celeb circuit, playing off a handicap of just six. He even owned his own golf club near Memphis for eight years. One Direction star Niall Horan is a self-declared “golf geek” Horan has been playing since the age of 12 and recently got his handicap down to single figures. Apparently Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst is actually pretty handy with a set of clubs, winning the 2014 MPSE charity golf tournament.
