Ore Obuda wins the Strictly Come Dancing Glitterball
December 21, 2016
The Strictly Come Dancing competition has come to an end, with Ore Oduba, the 30-year-old BBC sports presenter, and his dance partner, Joanne Clifton, were crowned the winners of 2016 on Saturday 17th. Gifted with the prestigious Glitterball trophy, Oduba looked rather emotional as he accepted the title of dance champion of the show.
However, we are not surprised Oduba won the competition, with his undeniable talent and faultless footwork you could easily mistake Ore for one of the professional dancers. Although, with no prior dance training, his natural moves impressed not only the judges, that put him and Joanne at the top of the leaderboard, but everyone else at home. And let’s not forget Clifton who glided across the Strictly floor with such grace. The pair certainly did make a great dancing duo, scoring an impressive 119 points out of a possible 120!
For those of you that missed their last dances, or just want a cheeky re-cap, we have decided to go through what dances won them the Strictly crowns!
The ‘Showdance’ showed off all the talents of both dancers as they darted across the floor to ‘I’ve Got Rhythm’. Oduba sported a tailcoated suit whilst Clifton wore a fabulous navy dress. The showdance allowed the pair to cherograph a dance that showed off the best of their abilities, and the pair did not let us down! Darcey, a judge on the panel, said of the performance: “I have to say that was fun, that was full, fast and classic-my cup of tea!”, praising the duo on how many dance elements they incorporated into their show-stopping performance.
For the ‘American Smooth’, the pair danced to ‘Singing in the rain’ whilst Gene Kelly’s widow, Patricia, watched in the audience. Dancing with large golf umbrellas, the pair gracefully glided along the Strictly dance floor. This is our favourite dance of the show and if, like us, you want to re-live the dance you can watch it here:
For their final dance, the pair jived to ‘Runaway Baby’ and nabbed themselves an all round perfect score. With their classy snap kicks and smooth transitions, the pair arguably stole the show!
Unfortunately Strictly Come Dancing is now over for another year, so why not grab your golf umbrellas and have a go at dancing the American Smooth in the rain or practise your kicks and jive this Christmas? We know we will be…
