Top 9 must do’s after you're engaged

Congratulations, you're engaged! But now you are wondering what to do next. Planning a wedding can be a very overwhelming experience so you will want to make it as stress-free as possible. Here are some top things to do to in order to plan your perfect dream wedding.

1) Find a season, not a date

Rather than tearing your hair out looking for the exact date, start with narrowing it down to the season. This allows you to keep your options open after you have had the chance to talk to family, the wedding party and all possible venues that you may be interested in. Being flexible with different dates within your preferred season will not only help you find the best venue especially if it is an outdoor wedding but also it will provide context when talking with your florist about flowers, catering the food and also possible transportation options.

2) Build a budget

The overall number does not need to be exact but you should have a budget in mind that you want to stick to before you begin planning. The simplest way to create a budget is to sit down and have an honest conversation with whoever is contributing to the costs. Whatever budget you set, it really is important to stay within it as much as possible.

3) Have your ring sized and insured

That very moment you slip that engagement ring on your finger that's also the moment you start to worry about it. For this exact reason, you should make sure that it properly fits you so sizing it should be a priority. Along the same lines, you are going to want to insure it. I’m sure there are a lot of brides who skip this step as they think it's either a hassle or won’t need to do it. Insuring your ring is a small price to pay for something so special in your life so if it ever gets lost, stolen or damaged, you are covered.

4) Create a Pinterest board

Pinterest is a social platform loved by all brides-to-be - and even people who aren't engaged yet - when it comes to wedding planning. Being able to take any images for inspiration and to have them all in one view is a way you are able to pick the smallest of details you are thinking about having for your big day and constantly refer back to. If you suddenly change your mind you can simply delete the image to make way for a new one.

5) Create a guest list

Whether it's 30 or 300, knowing how many people will be invited will give you an estimated head count that you can inform prospective venues of, in order to determine whether or not they will be able to accommodate you. Creating a guest list early in the planning process will also help you plan your budget, invitations and catering etc.

6) Find a style and look

No two weddings will ever be exactly the same. The earlier you decide on a style and look for your wedding you can start to find suitable venues which fit in with your desired aesthetic. There are so many routes you can go down whether it be Rustic, Glamorous, Bohemian or Classic; the possibilities are endless but you should go for something that will ultimately represent you as a couple.

7) Interview wedding planners

If you decide to opt for a wedding planner (which is not always necessary) it’s best to start the process of interviewing candidates very early on. When you meet with a wedding planner you should ideally know the date, size, location and budget of your wedding, as the planner will base their fees on this information.

8) Stay fit and stress-free

Every bride wants to look and feel their best on their wedding day and it all starts with creating a fitness routine. Treat daily 30-minute workouts as an appointment, making sure you touch on all aspects of fitness like cardio and strength. Try not to miss out other important aspects such a healthy diet, good sleeping pattern and a great skin care routine as they all add up to you looking and feeling amazing on the most important day of your life.

9) On the day

No matter what your decisions are, make sure your planning is fun. If it comes to the big day and it feels as things are not going quite according to plan, remember to relax and that everyone is here to celebrate you and your partner and not worrying about the rain. And just in case, have some backup ivory wedding umbrellas to make things run smoothly.
