Doing Away With The Traditional: Weddings With a Difference
October 25, 2015
Tradition has its place in a wedding but there are so many to adhere to should this be the route you choose to go down. And not everyone follows suit… check out these examples of some seriously unique weddings with a difference.
The new trailer is out and filming for the next instalment is already underway. People are going crazy for the new film, and with die hard Star Wars fans all over the globe, it makes sense that a few couples have harnessed the force on the most special of days - their wedding day. From cutting the cake with a light saber, to a light-saber themed first dance (it happened!), your wedding date would be oh too easy to decide on – May the 4th, of course.
Sticking with the film and fantasy idea, one couple decided on a Harry Potter theme for their wedding. Guests arrived via the Hogwards Express and once the reception was over they were sorted by the sorting hat to determine which table they’d be sitting at – Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin!
The Great Gatsby
If you’re a fan of opulence, glamour and all things luxury you could go with The Great Gatsby theme for your wedding though it may be a more heavier choice on the wallet! Guests could theme their outfits for the 20s and the setting could be in a huge banquet hall, with champagne and opulence at every turn.
Not as crazy as it sounds – yes, Christmas is all things Santa Claus and reindeer and elves… but it’s also reds, golds, silvers, greens, good food and celebrating with loved ones. Glitter is always fun and you could serve a hearty roast dinner and make a traditional toast to the brand new Mr and Mrs in a toast to Christmas and each other. Plus, who wouldn’t want to celebrate Christmas twice in one year?
With the world’s sea levels increasing at an alarming rate, an eco-friendly wedding could be the most timely and apt of the moment. Solar powered lighting and recyclable plates, knifes and forks could be just a couple of ways to make your day a better one for the environment.
Game of Thrones
We’ve seen a few couples opt for this theme. Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo make popular options for the bride and groom and one couple even made up a fictional language in which to take their vows. Another GoT themed wedding had a makeup artist spend 50 hours making guests look like characters from the show too and included a show-stopping cake cut with a bloody sword no less!
The beautiful thing about a wedding is it’s you and your other halves’ to do with as you want. So if you enjoy the same things or have a quirk or love of something a little bit unique… go for it and dare to be different!
