Pinch, Punch: It's Your Wedding Day
April 15, 2014
We at Jollybrolly know how important a wedding day is and that's why we stock a wide range of gorgeous wedding parasols and umbrellas to help add a touch of elegance and sophistication to your big day. The world has many weird and wonderful superstitions when it comes to weddings and here are just some of the customs that may raise a few eyebrows.
• During Czech wedding ceremonies peas are thrown instead of rice! It is hard to comprehend being showered in bright green peas on your wedding day, let's just hope they're not frozen!
• Egyptian brides receive pinches from well-wishers on their big day as a way of giving good luck. This could be a rather painful way to wish the bride good luck and we're not sure if bruised blue goes well with a white dress!
• Old English tradition says that it's good luck to find a spider in your wedding dress. Perhaps the most horrifying thing to find in a dress on any day, let alone your wedding day! Good luck is one thing, but eight furry legs are quite another.
• An old tradition suggests that if the younger of two sisters is the first to marry then the older should dance barefoot at the wedding or risk never finding a husband! This sounds like a lot of weddings we've seen already, dancing barefoot at a wedding probably is not the harshest punishment for being the second to marry. We think it sounds quite fun!
Whatever traditions and customs you adopt on your wedding day, Jollybrolly are here to offer you beautiful umbrellas and parasols that can really add some classic sparkle to the most important day of your life. With many colours and styles available such as this beige domed wedding umbrella below, there is something to suit any wedding theme you have in mind, even if the superstitions aren't quite to taste!
