Wet weather set to continue throughout the start of January
January 5, 2016
As we battle our way back to work after the festive break the weather is trying to dampen our spirits as well! Since the turn of the New Year it hasn’t seemed to stop raining, with flooding being seen across a large part of the country.
The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for rain today and Wednesday with a more severe amber alert in Scotland. Although southern regions will bear the brunt of the wet weather, heavy rain across the UK threatens to plunge flood-hit regions into further misery.
The Environment Agency has issued more than 100 flood alerts and 22 more serious flood warnings across the entire country.
In the last few months, the UK has been hit by a number of freak storms – Storm Desmond, Storm Eva and Storm Frank.
Frank Saunders, chief meteorologist at the Met Office said ‘We expect heavy and persistent rain to affect parts of eastern Scotland over the next few days, and have already issued National Severe Weather Warnings for its potential impacts.’
With this unpredictable wet weather why not look to her Majesty? Heavy downpours and ferocious winds over the weekend didn't stop The Queen attending her first engagement of the year.
Her Majesty marked the start of her 90th year with a service at St Mary Magdalene's church on the Sandringham estate flanked by members of the royal family where she teamed her purple jewel-toned coat and matching hat with feather decoration with a clear dome umbrella which was then lent to Sophie Wessex to escape the deluge.
At Jolly Brolly we offer a wide range of umbrellas that will protect you from the elements for the New Year.
